See below for camp schedule and descriptions.

Camp Descriptions

This program is the latest addition to our Mini MAT programs. We wanted to offer a program for the newest Mountain Adventurers. We will base out of our “Roots” campus in Bellevue, which offers a combination of outdoor adventure, goats and chickens, gardens, river access, and a schoolhouse to use as needed. These groups will do “mini-adventures” in the van twice a week to explore new locations. This program will prepare kids to do full-scale adventures in the years to come! We will offer a Ketchum drop off and pick up and kids will be transported to Roots in a van-shuttle. Or, parents can drop off and pick up at Roots.

These programs are designed with our younger adventurers in mind.  Each Mini and Mighty camp schedule will be planned by our staff leaders in advance. In any week you could visit roaring waterfalls, tromp through muddy creeks, or even visit the fire station. Children are transported in passenger vans with masks on. All Mini and Mighty camps run from 10am to 4 pm unless there is an earlier departure.

Let’s get our hands dirty and dig in the dirt! Your kids will gain hands-on experience in planning, planting and harvesting a garden. (Earlier in the season we do more planting and later in the season we do more harvesting). We will also learn about different bugs in our gardens and rivers!  Afternoons will consist of adventuring and the usual M.A.T. activities.

It’s a bird…it’s a plane… it’s superhero camp! If you could have any special powers, what would they be? Invent your own secret superhero identity, choose your superpower, and make your costume accessories. Concoct a batch of kryptonite, visit local heroes from the Police and Fire department, and make up adventures with other young superheroes!

Let’s have fun! Let’s get dirty! Let’s find all the best mud and dirt the valley has to offer. Each day while we are exploring nature, we will make a point to play in the dirt….Making sandcastles, creating fairy houses, digging waterways, painting our bodies with mud, and then splashing off the dirt.

A winning combination of Splash Bash and Cravin’ Caves! These Mini adventurers explore caves and discover how they were made. Take a break from the bluebird skies and go underground to see what secrets lay inside. When we are not underground, campers will be checking out local water life, swimming, splashing, and just having a great time.

Arrrrrr Captain!  Get ready to spend your days searching and seeking all over the Wood River Valley. Each day the hunt is on! Can you find the clues left behind by pirates? Keep an eye on your lunch, it might get stolen!  Every day you will be faced with a new treasure hunt so bring your mates and get ready for fun!

Be a part of the M.A.T Garden down at Roots.  Learn about the magical symbiotic relationship between humans and our earth, from seed to farm stand. Your children will gain hands-on experience in planning, planting, and harvesting a garden. Afternoons will consist of adventuring and the usual M.A.T. activities.

This camp combines art with adventure. Let’s get creative! Each day your child will create something from nature! The project may be something to take home or a creation the group leaves behind in the forest. Get ready to be inspired and then as always, the kids will have a good ol’ mountain adventure!

Your camper will experience all things “rocks”! Explore the underground rock world by caving, visit Craters of the Moon and learn about local geology, find and paint your favorite rocks, jump off rocks into rivers and lakes. Not to mention — we will be “rocking out” to different styles of music. This group will have a “rocking” week!

Has anyone ever told you that you should be a secret agent? Get ready to use the most powerful tool known to man — your imagination! We will engage in undercover operations around the Wood River Valley. We will create our own disguises to go unnoticed even by those who know us best!  We will solve a mystery by studying clues and using our detective intuition!

Here at Mountain Adventure Tours we know how much you all love to get wet, and so do we! Get ready to explore the rivers and lakes of Idaho all week long!! When we’re not jumping into lakes and running down rivers we will head to Stanley for a half day float down the day stretch of the Salmon.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Math!? School is over. It’s summer now. Time to run around, get dirty, have fun and connect with nature. We’re going to do all of that —plus more, as we spend a week exploring nature and experimenting with science through a series of fun, eco-friendly projects. We’ll make art using the sun. We’ll launch projectiles hundreds of feet using nothing but air. We’ll bake cookies in a solar oven! The Valley is our playground and our laboratory, now let’s get to work!

Do you like bugs, birds, dogs, horses, beavers or moose? We’ll take a trip to the animal shelter to see a human’s best friend. How about fish and birds? Each day we’ll listen and watch for animals all around us while we explore the hills and rivers of the Wood River Valley and beyond!

Over the years at Mountain Adventure Tours, we have created our own word for going “off-trail” and “bushwhacking”. We call it “CLARKING”. We feel like the adventure begins when you veer off the beaten path, safely and responsibly!  It’s not about the destination, but the adventure along the way. So, let’s be like the great explorers of the West! Bring your hiking shoes, swimsuit, raincoat, adventurous spirit, and be ready for whatever the adventure of the day brings!

*Single Overnight. Throughout the summer we will visit M.A.T.’s favorite spots, old and new. Campers will enjoy classic Enviro-tainment fun such as Magic Reservoir, Idaho BaseCamp, Craters of the Moon, The Big Lost River, Easley Hot Springs, and, of course, favorite hidden spots that only campers and staff know about (if we told everybody they wouldn’t be a secret).  When we’re not out exploring, swimming, trekking, and getting dirty we will tour local businesses throughout the Magic and Wood River Valleys, and go anywhere people invite us to show us what they do.  Don’t forget that every place we visit, we leave looking better than we found it in true Leave No Trace principle, by picking up litter and caring for our environment.  This camp may change due to weather, age group, or time of year.  See schedule for add-on activities such as fishing, rafting, climbing, and overnights.

**Double Overnight. Join Illiah and friends for a Hot Spring adventure in Southern Idaho. Dierkes Lake, Miracle Hot Springs,  Hagerman Hot Springs, Lava Hot Springs are on the list for this legendary adventure.

Your camper will experience all things “rocks”! Explore the underground rock world by caving, adventure in the mountains with rock climbing, visit Craters of the Moon and learn about local geology. Jump off rocks into rivers and lakes. Not to mention – we will be ‘rocking out’ to different styles of music. This group will have a “rocking” week!

**Double Overnight. This 4-day session will help campers transition into being a CIT. In preparation for becoming role models for the younger generations of campers, participants in the CIT camp will undergo a training schedule that mimics the staff training period prior to summer camp. They will also study, plan, and host an overnight with younger campers and assist staff throughout the week to gain valuable experience.

*Single Overnight. Here at Mountain Adventure Tours, we love to get out of town, drive on a dirt road, and find our adventures!  RC Camp will let your kids do that with their own RC Car!! We will give kids the opportunity to use their imagination and creativity to the fullest. Each camper will get their very own RC car! Through taking care of their RC car, your child will learn how to be responsible for keeping their car in working order — and while doing that, they can study and learn how these cars work. They will practice their hand-eye coordination and problem solving while driving their RC cars through tracks and obstacles that the kids will create. A typical day at RC camp would include RC car education and maintenance, track and obstacle building, RC car driving, and we will always include an epic adventure for the kids in the afternoon while we recharge the cars.

*Single Overnight. The week leading up to 4th of July is the time to celebrate the pioneers of our country and build a real parade float! Float Camp 2022 will construct the official 4th of July Mountain Adventure Tours float to compete in the Hailey parade (last year we placed #2). Wood, screws, paint, canvas, string and imagination are the building blocks for this camp. We will spend the days before the parade floating on the river or in the lake so bring your sunscreen, tube and river shoes and get ready to FLOAT AWAY!!!!

*Single Overnight. Saddle up buckaroos, because it’s time to go back to the Wild West!  Bring your cowboy hats along with your imagination because this is going to be a fun-filled week. Campers will enjoy horseback rides with local outfitters, visit a working dairy farm, see a cattle auction, and have an overnight by the campfire underneath the stars.

The first trip cruising down the Helende stretch of the Payette will end with an overnight camping in Lowman.  Then we head over to Stanley to meet up with White Otter where guides will be teaching campers to feel a little more comfortable on the river.  Campers will learn strokes, how to get out of tough spots, and how to help others when they are in difficult situations on the river. They will leave with a new respect for our natural river systems and knowledge of the importance of safety while boating.
