Who We Are
The people power behind IBC
Founder & Executive Director, IBC
Mat first created Mountain Adventure Tours and went on to found its parent organization, Idaho BaseCamp. From its earliest years to the present days, he continues to remain at the forefront of IBC, committed to its evolution and growth. On any given day, you can find him at camp drop-off giving high-fives to campers, working in the office, or most likely up at the Big Lost Campus!
Office Administrator, IBC & Director, MAT
Joelle is the glue that holds it all together by making sure that MAT and other IBC programs run smoothly throughout the year. She joined the team in 2003 and has since become synonymous with a sense of peace and comfort for all parents signing their kids up to camp. Joelle helps guide the direction of M.A.T. to best represent IBC’s mission.
Program Director, IBC
Whitney handles all the goings-on across IBC, and makes sure that there are amazing visual memories each week of MAT as the camp’s Video Director. Although her love for adventuring with kids has now manifested into her life as a mother, you can still catch her leading a camp or two during the summer, and on the frontlines organizing new and exciting programs for IBC.
Board of Directors
“My kids started at Mountain Adventure Tours (MAT) when they were tiny and it changed the course of their lives and ours…in the best way possible. Their summer days were spent in the river, on the mountain, laughing, learning and connecting into a new community. Coming from Los Angeles, this was their bridge to the outdoors that gave them experiences that would have never filled their lives and minds. I became a believer and brought in anyone to Mountain Adventure Tours who would listen. As the organization grew I championed efforts. Both kids have grown from campers to CITs to Counselours – this led to their decision that Sun Valley was their home and they wanted to become boarding students at Community School. My husband and I commute between LA and Sun Valley – where I run a Marketing and Public Relations agency. I am dedicated to sharing the magic of IBC and MAT with as many kids as possible. When kids have the opportunity to get outside and be kids – great things happen.”
MAT Camp Staff
Staff Director, MAT
Jessie is M.A.T.’s Staff Director. Part of the camp crew since its inception in 1998, she holds a Master Degree in Special Education and is a Certified Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. Kevin brings six years of experience to M.A.T as a Lead Counselor! When not heading into the Idaho wilderness with vans full of campers, he works in the classroom as a Special Ed teacher at the Wood River Middle School. Originally from Oregon, Kevin loves skiing, cooking, and photography.
Dayle grew up in Massachusetts and found her way over to the M.A.T. team with a lucky Google search. She has a Masters in Human Development and has been working in outdoor education for 7+ years. After just one summer Dayle fell in love with everything Idaho has to offer and cannot wait to be back for the 2020 summer!
Having grown up in Idaho, Nico is also a fly-fishing guide for Lost River Outfitters right here in Ketchum. He says, “I am truly blessed because I have the ability to be outside all summer and spend time with some great co-counselors and some bad-ass kids! Looking forward to the 2020 camp season!
Born in Santa Monica, CA, Eden spent her childhood coming to Sun Valley, and made it official by moving here two years ago. She is involved in IBC’s After-School program and in the summer, she’s always the first one to jump in the river! Eden cannot wait for for her 12th year of camp. In her words: “There is no camp without the AMP!!”
Jake Rose was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He is no stranger to to M.A.T., having been part of Mountain Adventure Tours here for 11 years, both as a camper and now a counselor! When not in school, he is working on-screen and off-stage as an actor. You may see him on the big screen soon, but in the meantime, you’ll definitely see him this summer!
